Vacation knitting

Since it was a "beach vacation", it seemed only appropriate to knit something with a beach theme! [That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ;-)] Presenting ... Glass Beach :

Just after I finished the first repeat, I ran out of Maroon. Do you think I could find any in the 6 shops that I visited?

CitySide Yarns in Bangor

Went to their closing down sale. Everything except the handspun at 40% off.

Walked out with only 3 skeins of Cascade 220, one of Alpaca with a Twist and a few circular needles.

Shirley's in Hancock

Ignore the touristy crap and head for the yarns on your right. Some of the yarns must be 10 years old ;-) OK, that was an exaggeration but if you're looking for Dale of Norway's Kolibri which has been discontinued years ago, she has it and in lots of colours. Just don't expect discounted prices.

Came away with only two Dale of Norway books :

Blue Hill Yarn Shop in Blue Hill

Finally, a yarn store owner who spoke nearly the same language! There were stranded projects everywhere instead of the usual handpainted and "modern" stuff.

Don't remember much except for the 3 baskets of Jamieson and Smith, which I promptly tipped out to look for the "discontinued colours". Found 2 hanks of #55 :

I might now have enough for Mara.

String Theory in Blue Hill

I'm sure they had the usual popular brands but I was more interested in their own handpainted yarn.

If I were a sock knitter, I would have walked out with more than this :

I was so desperate for something to knit, I actually wound it into a ball but gave up knitting a lace scarf after 3 rows!

Fiberphilia in Orono

At last, some Jamieson's ... mostly DK but, a few Spindrift. No Maroon or the colours I need for other projects. Since they were so nice, I bought a skein of handpainted laceweight :

Bee's Inc at Bar Harbour

If you get past the candy, you'll find the yarn. Nothing exciting ... some Lavold, Noro, fun fur .... etc. but since the husband and kids get upset when I walk out with nothing, I grabbed a skein of sock yarn :

Heavenly Socks Yarns in Belfast

Usual sock yarns and other unmemorable stuff!
