Much more than 12 Kilograms lighter ...

Not me! The stash :

That is what I gave Goodwill last week. Stopped counting after I passed 110, 100gm skeins and 9, 50 gm balls. There was Brown Sheep, Classic Elite 50/50 llama & wool, Cherry Tree Pot Luck, vintage Handsome Harry and even the Briggs & Little Aran weight which I swatched for Columbia.

It was time to admit that they ( and the ones I turfed in the garbage) stopped making me happy, long ago. There's another ~10 kgs. that I'm ambivalent about. Might list them on Ravelry later, after I've taken pictures.

In real life, I'm a yo-yo dieter, so it shouldn't surprise you that I've started filling up the empty space left by the destashing :

Guess you know whose stash that came from eh, Lorraine? My supplier pusher Our mutual friend is a bad influence on me and I've stayed awake with her ~10 nights in the last two weeks. Those people, at least those on EDST, must be Vampires.

In case some of you think it's just another of my crazy ideas :

Another practise piece to see which method was most comfortable for me. OMG! I should have listened to you people who recommended 2 circulars earlier ;-)

After a few rows of using 2 circulars, the sock I was supposed to knit while on vacation in Mexico (2005?) :

was brought out of hibernation and this is what it looks like now :

I REALLY do not like short rows. Transferred the heel sts to 3 dpns as per suggestion. D@mn needle slipped out when there were a few sts on it. Might have lost a wrap or two. Had to "close" one hole already and I think there's another that is big enough to bother me.

Will it be too weird if I did a toe up with heel flap for the other side? If that doesn't work, I'll go back to cuff down. Thank goodness there's a lot of yardage in Wollmeise!

WIP Wednesday : a Preview of what's to come in 2010

::: happy dance ::: I did it! I did it!

Want to see again?

I know it's no big deal for all you experts, but I've finally knitted a sock with just one hole! See! No holes at the gusset & it is not because I "cheated" :

Yay, me. No ladders either :

Thanks to Stephanie who mentioned she learnt to knit socks using this book, Sensational Knitted socks by Charlene Schurch long, long ago.

I had it, but because there were so many tables which I assumed would require me to think or do some calculations, I totally ignored it and purchased more.

She gives instructions for different sized yarns using 4 or 5 dpns or 2 circulars. I did this using 5 dpns.

Goal : do the other side using 2 circulars.

There's a deer in my garden ...

... and it's watching my neighbour's babysitter sun bathe :

You've seen pics of how high above the street my house is, so it's pretty amazing how that deer got there. First time, we've seen one actually in the garden. Yes, it was feasting on my flowers. I must be doing something right ;-)

WIP Wednesday : June 17th

Sacrificed knitting time to put in a "drip irrigation" system, aGaIN. The husband messed up the previous one (which I put in) when he made it "easier" for me to get at.

The garden is "strange". Whomever planned it, put in flower beds wherever they could without thought as to how to water the plants. They are all not connected or bordering the lawn. There are even 2 at the bottom of the driveway.

You can see 4 of those flower beds in this picture :

There's actually a 5th around the corner of the house. So the whole of yesterday was spent putting in the micro-sprinkler/drip system.

The hydrangeas are beginning to put on a show :

On to the knitting ... except for the saddle straps, both Fern sleeves are done :

Goal ... finish the straps.

Began both St. Enda sleeves :

Goal ... finish all increases, which is like the whole sleeve, not counting the straps!

WIP Wednesday : mid-life crisis

Long before I took up knitting, I sewed. Armed with a G.C.E. "O" level in Needlework & Dressmaking, I used to sew some of my clothes and colourful, board shorts for Kidlet #2. We were living in Perth, at that time.

Anyway, I suddenly got it into my head that I needed a few, flowy, flowery skirts. Shopping for material here is so different. In Singapore, (which is where I bought my fabrics), a person would go to People's Park. I remember that at least one floor of the shopping area was occupied by nothing, but fabric stores. I don't understand why this dump city can't support a decent fabric store.

Anyhow, after consulting with Sharon, I got these :

It looks like "quilting fabric" because it is! Maybe one of you can tell me why quilting fabric is so much prettier than 100% cotton fabric for apparels? And those patterns? I swear they're the same ones I had in the 70's/80's!

Stuck with a name I knew ;-)

Since this is still a knitting blog :

tHanK You, Carolyn! I was all ready to begin a stranded project, but stuck at choosing which one. I guess I'll continue with Fern and St. Enda.

Goal ... try to finish at least one sleeve.
